Good Christmas party invitation wording comes down to six lines: who is hosting, what kind of party it is, the day, date and time, the address, the dress code, and who to RSVP to by when. Christmas 2026 falls on Friday, 25 December, with Christmas Eve on a Thursday, so Saturday 19 December is the last Saturday before Christmas, and your guests may have other invitations for it. "Drinks at ours on the 19th?" in a group chat does not get the yes.
This guide gives you what a Christmas party invitation has to say, three complete invitations, 40 wording ideas for every line of it that you can copy as they are, and an invitation that plays like a trailer, cut to a jingle-bells track, with your names on a watercolour train.

What a Christmas party invitation has to say
Strip any good Christmas invite down and there are six lines on it:
| Line | What goes there | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Who | The hosts, by name | The Millers |
| What | The kind of party | invite you to a Christmas party |
| When | Day, date and time, in words | Saturday 19th December, 7 to 11 pm |
| Where | The street, then the town | 25 Mistletoe Lane, Pine Valley |
| Wear | A dress code people can play | Your ugliest Christmas sweater |
| Reply | One name, and a number or a deadline | RSVP to Emma by the 12th |
Everything else, the tree, the snow, the music, is atmosphere. A printed card or a forwarded image can only show atmosphere. An invitation sent as a link can play it.
Before you send
- Write the date in words. Saturday 19th December is read once; 19/12 gets read twice by half your guests, and wrongly by the other half.
- Give the RSVP a deadline. "RSVP" without a date means people reply on the day.
- Say if it's a Secret Santa or bring-a-dish in the dress code line. It is the line everyone reads last, so it is the one they remember.
Three complete invitations to copy
Each one has all six lines; swap in your own details. These three are extras: the 40 lines, sorted by what they are for, come after them.

The invitation that plays like a trailer
The Christmas Express party invitation turns those six lines into a 49-second film, cut to a jingle-bells track so every word lands on a beat. It opens like a movie trailer, then hands over to a hand-painted watercolour story:
- The teaser. One bold word every two beats on maroon, white and mint screens: ARE · YOU · READY? (flashing five times) · SOMETHING · MERRY · IS · COMING TO TOWN · YOU'RE INVITED. The last two words punch out towards the camera.
- The station. A red steam engine chugs out of a snowy stone arch, a snowman in a knitted beanie springs up out of the snow, and your title (Join Us For a Merry Celebration) bounces in word by word.
- The Christmas Express. The engine's steam swells into a cloud that fills the screen and lifts off a mountain valley. The train rolls by with a crate wagon, a tanker and a flatcar of presents while your names pop out letter by letter in a burst of confetti.
- The date. A whip pan lands on a wooden signboard that springs up out of the snow. A penguin in a red scarf hops in, and the day, date and time pop onto the board.
- The address. A red cabin swings in and lands with a puff of snow, and the address pops in while a little train puffs by behind it.
- The RSVP. A snowball splats on the lens; the station comes back with the dress code, the RSVP and a phone number.
- Merry Christmas. Red bursts open with gold confetti, and Merry Christmas is written by hand over glitter snow.
All 22 lines are editable, from the title to an optional sign-off under Merry Christmas. It plays by itself once opened (one tap turns the sound on), in 9:16 on any phone or 16:9 on a laptop or the office TV. Guests need no app or account. Building and previewing are free; sharing the link and downloading the video need a one-time unlock ($2.99, or ₹59 in India) or a plan (see pricing). Jingle Bell Jukebox is the default track; you can pick another from the library, though the cuts are timed to the default. You can play it with your own names and date before you make one.

Before you send
- One link for the whole group. Christmas Express names the hosts, not the guest, so one link works for everyone in the chat.
- Change the details after sending and the same link updates for everyone who opens it afterwards. A moved time never needs a correction message.
- Send it in the evening with the sound on. Every word of the teaser cuts on the beat of the music.
The WhatsApp message that goes with the link
The link preview shows what it is, so the message only has to make them tap it with the sound on.
Sound on. Something merry is coming to town 🎄

Family and Friendsmas wording
Family Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Warm, plain, with the time people should arrive and whether to bring anything.
Christmas Eve at ours this year. Dinner at 7, carols after, stockings for the little ones. Just bring yourselves.
Christmas lunch at Mum's on the 25th, 1 pm. Everyone brings one dish; Dad is doing the turkey, so nobody else needs to.
Friendsmas. The funny one, for the group chat.
Friendsmas at ours on the 27th. Leftovers, board games and the ugliest sweater wins a prize. Losers do the dishes.
Santa's not coming, but we are. Our place, Saturday the 19th, bring a bottle and your worst Christmas jumper.
For a smaller hello rather than a party, a Christmas wish with their name or one of the 60+ Merry Christmas wishes does the job.
Office Christmas party invitation wording
Name the team or company, the occasion, the date, time and venue, the dress code and an RSVP deadline, and keep it friendly but clear. Three things office invitations often leave out: whether partners are invited, a line for dietary needs if there is food, and whether there is a Secret Santa.
You're invited to our annual holiday party. Friday 18 December, 6 pm, The Rooftop. Festive smart casual, partners welcome. RSVP to HR by 4 December.
The year is shipped. Let's celebrate. Year-end party on the 11th, 5:30 pm onwards. Secret Santa names go out on Monday.
When to send it in 2026
These are planning suggestions, not rules.
| Party | 2026 date | Send the invite |
|---|---|---|
| Office party | Friday 11 December | 13 to 20 November, three to four weeks ahead |
| Office party | Friday 18 December | 20 to 27 November, three to four weeks ahead |
| Last Saturday before Christmas | Saturday 19 December | 28 November to 5 December, two to three weeks ahead |
| Christmas Eve | Thursday 24 December | Early December |
| Christmas Day | Friday 25 December | Early December, earlier if anyone travels |
| Between the holidays | 26 to 30 December | Right after Christmas, one to two weeks ahead |
- Send a reminder two days before with the same link: "Doors at 7, see you there." The card does not change; the urgency does.
- Last minute is fine for a casual party. The invitation takes about five minutes to make, and a link sent on Wednesday still fills a Saturday.
- For office parties, send early. By December, calendars are full of other teams' parties, family travel and year-end deadlines.
- Give travellers more notice. These dates are starting points, not rules: anyone flying in, or guests in another country, should hear as early as you can tell them.
Check the exact dates and a live countdown on When is Christmas?, and when the party is done, there is a year-in-review card for New Year's Eve.
