Every culture has a moment where a baby stops being the baby and becomes a person with a name. Hindus call it Naamkaran. Christians hold a christening or baptism. Muslim families hold an Aqiqah. South Indian families place the baby in a decorated cradle. And a growing number of families hold a simple naming day with no ritual at all.
The ceremony changes. The invitation does not. It always has to do the same five things — say a baby arrived, say what they are called, say when and where, say how to reply, and ask for blessings.
This is every wording you need, sorted by tradition. Tap Copy on any message and paste it straight into WhatsApp.
What do you write in a naming ceremony invitation? A warm opening line about the baby's arrival, the baby's name (or a teaser if it's a surprise), the ceremony name with date and time, the venue with a map link, and how to RSVP — with the parents' names underneath. Keep it under sixty words so it survives being read on a phone.

The three-line formula
Almost every good naming invitation is the same three moves. Once you see it, you can write your own in two minutes.
- The arrival — one line about the baby coming into your life. Not the birth details. The feeling. "A little life arrived, and a thousand dreams began with it."
- The ask — invite them and say what for. "Please join us as we give our little one their name."
- The blessing — the reason they should come. "Your blessings are the greatest gift we could ask for."
Details — date, time, venue, RSVP — sit below those three lines, not inside them. The moment you mix logistics into the emotional lines, both stop working.

What every invitation must include
Whatever tradition you are working in, this is the checklist. Miss one of these and you will spend the week before the ceremony answering the same question on the phone.
- The baby's name — or a deliberate teaser if you are keeping it for the day
- The parents' names — and the grandparents' if the family is hosting
- The ceremony name — Naamkaran, Christening, Baptism, Aqiqah, cradle ceremony
- Date and time — including "onwards" if it is a rolling morning function
- The venue, with a map link — half your guests have never been to your church, hall or home
- How to RSVP — one tap, ideally on WhatsApp, not a phone number people must save first
- A blessing line — the reason they should come, not just the logistics

Two reminders is the ceiling. New parents chasing a third reminder is how a happy occasion turns into an admin job.
The etiquette nobody explains
Gifts. One soft line is enough — "your blessings are the only gift we need". People will still bring something. That is not a failure of your wording; it is what people do.
Who to invite. A naming ceremony is traditionally intimate: grandparents, siblings, mama-mami and bua-fufa, close neighbours, a handful of friends. It is not a wedding guest list. If you are unsure about someone, ask whether they will still be in this child's life in ten years.
Godparents, mentors, guide-parents. Ask privately, before the invitation goes out, and never in a group chat. Then name them in the invitation — it is a public honour and it should read like one.
The baby's photo. Fine to include, but keep it small in the invitation and save the good ones for after. A newborn photo in an invitation is a garnish, not the meal.
Two names. Many Hindu families keep the nakshatra name used in the rituals separate from the everyday name. Put the everyday name in the invitation, unless the elders specifically want otherwise.
Paper, PDF, or an invitation that plays
A printed card is beautiful and expensive, and a new parent has neither the time nor the sleep to run to a printer twice. A PDF forwarded on WhatsApp solves the cost but arrives as a grey file nobody opens.
An invitation that plays as a link solves both. It opens instantly in any browser, the map and RSVP are buttons rather than instructions, and — the part that actually matters — the baby's name can arrive rather than sit there in a font.
MomentoCard's free naming ceremony invitation does exactly that: a cradle rocks under falling petals, the parents walk in and lay the baby down, and then the name assembles itself letter by letter in gold before the details unroll on a scroll. It switches between a Hindu Naamkaran look, a Christening look, an Aqiqah look and a modern pastel one, so the same invitation works whatever you are celebrating.

There is exactly one line that belongs in every single one of these invitations, in every tradition, in every language. Everything else on this page is decoration around it:
Come and bless our little one.
