Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday, 31 October, a weekend night, which means everyone will be home, in the dark, with their phone. That's the perfect setup for a scare.
This guide has two parts: 40 scary Halloween messages you can copy as they are, and a card that doesn't just say something scary. It does something scary.
The card: a one-minute horror story with their name in it
The Spooky Brew scary Halloween card opens on two red eyes in thick fog and the words "their name, something has been waiting for you." One tap lets them in. After that it plays by itself, four poster-style rooms in about a minute:
- The cauldron. Bones, an eye and a live spider drop in. "Don't blink, something is about to climb out." Then a skull lunges at the screen from somewhere else entirely.
- The hallway. Three ghosts drift through the wall. "This one is friendly." It whispers hello, and then BOO. The little one was the bait.
- The pantry. A poison bottle rattles, then goes still. "Look up." A giant spider drops from the ceiling.
- The moon. A black cat, your title, their name and your wish. Then the cat hisses.
Every room uses the same trick: the light closes in on one thing, the caption tells them to watch it, the music winds up and cuts to silence, and the fright comes from the place they weren't looking. That is why people actually jump.

You can watch it with any name before you make one.
Short scary Halloween messages
- You made it to the end. Most don't. Happy Halloween.
- Happy Halloween. Don't look behind you. Seriously, don't.
- I saved you a seat in the cauldron.

- Sleep tight tonight. If you can.
- The house knows your name now.
- Trick or treat. I chose trick.
Creepy Halloween messages

- The little ghost says hello again. It knows where you live now.

- I wouldn't open the cupboard tonight if I were you.
Funny scary Halloween messages

- Scientifically proven: you jumped at least twice. Happy Halloween, you big baby.
- Sorry about the spider. Not sorry.
- Voice notes of your scream are welcome.
- I'd say "boo", but the card already did.
- You owe me one heart rate. Happy Halloween.
- Brave enough to finish it? Prove it with a screenshot.
- Plot twist: the scariest thing here is your face when the skull appeared.
For your best friend
- Who else would I trust to survive this? Happy Halloween, partner in fright.
- We've watched every horror film together. This one's personal.
- If anything comes for you tonight, I'm sending it to your sister next.
- You said nothing scares you. Let's find out.
For your partner
- You're the only one I'd share a haunted house with. Happy Halloween, love.
- I'd hold your hand through every jump scare. Even the spider one.

- The only monster in your life should be me. Happy Halloween.
For your brother or sister
- Payback for every time you hid behind a door.
- Mum says play nice. This is me playing nice.
- Still scared of the dark? Asking for a ghost.
- Happy Halloween from your favourite little monster.
For the group chat or the office
- Everyone open this at 10pm sharp. No cheating.
- First one to scream buys the snacks.
- The office is haunted. This proves it.
- Happy Halloween, team. Don't stay late tonight.
How to send a scary card so it really lands
- Send it after dark. Saturday night on the 31st, or Friday the 30th. Daylight kills a jump scare.
- Keep the WhatsApp text short. "Sound on. Lights off. π»" beats a paragraph. The link preview already shows what it is.
- Ask for the sound. The music and the silence before each fright do half of the work.
- Put their name in it. In Spooky Brew it appears in the fog, in the cauldron room and on the moon, so it feels made for them, which makes it scarier.
- End kindly. The last scene is your wish. A good prank finishes with a smile.
Who not to send it to
Jump scares are sudden and loud, even when the pictures are cartoons. Skip it for small children, anyone with a heart condition, and anyone who genuinely hates being frightened. For them, the Trick or Treat card is playful and gentle, and there are more in every Halloween card.
