What happens when they open it

Four rooms. Four frights.

One tap gets them through the door. After that it is a short horror story that plays itself, a flat poster-style room at a time, and every room is built to make them look the wrong way.

Opening scene of the Spooky Brew scary Halloween card: two glowing red eyes in grey fog above the recipient's name and the words Enter if you dare

The door

Something has been waiting

What they watch
Thick fog, and two red eyes that slowly open. Their name is the first thing on screen: “Aanya, something has been waiting for you.”
Getting in
One tap on “Enter… if you dare” lets them in and switches the sound on. If they don’t dare, the door opens by itself after a while and the story plays anyway.
Then
From here they don’t touch anything. The story plays itself.
Cauldron room of the scary Halloween card: a skeleton hand rising out of a bubbling green cauldron on an orange poster background

Room 1

The cauldron

What they watch
One cracked bone, an eye that still blinks, a live spider: each drops into a bubbling green cauldron. The light closes in on it. “Don’t blink. Something is about to climb out of it…”
Where the fright really comes from
The music winds up, everything goes silent, and a skull lunges at the screen from somewhere they weren’t looking. On Android the phone buzzes in their hand.
Then
Only then does a skeleton hand rise out of the cauldron: “It’s alive! …and it already knows your name.”
Ghost hallway room of the scary Halloween card: three ghosts with red eyes and fangs bearing down on a dark teal background

Room 2

The hallway

What they watch
Three ghosts drift through the wall. The light settles on the little orange one. “This one is friendly. It only wants to say hello…”
Where the fright really comes from
It whispers “hello…”, the room goes quiet, and then BOO! A red splash, a scream, and every ghost turns its teeth on them.
Then
“It lied. The little one was the bait.” Then: “Run. Too late, the rest of them have seen you.”
Potion room of the scary Halloween card: a giant black spider dropping onto a poison bottle with an eyeball, on a purple background

Room 3

The pantry

What they watch
A poison bottle with an eyeball inside rattles on its shelf. “It wants out. The cork won’t hold much longer…” Then it stops. “Maybe it gave up.”
Where the fright really comes from
“Look up.” A giant spider drops from the ceiling straight at them, with a swarm of bats behind it.
Then
Then the cork pops anyway: “You let it out… and the cork is not going back in.”
Final scene of the scary Halloween card: a full moon and a black cat with yellow eyes above Happy Halloween, the recipient's name and the sender's wish

Room 4

Your Halloween wish

What they watch
A full moon over a black cat on a branch. Your title, their name in pumpkin orange, your wish and your name. Add a photo and it sits inside the moon.
The last trick
They think it’s over. It isn’t: the cat hisses, and something steps in from the edge of the screen.
Then
A “play again” button sits in the corner, because they will want to send it on.

Why people actually jump

The trick in every room

  1. 01

    The light closes in

Each room dims to a spotlight on one thing: the cauldron, the friendly ghost, the bottle. That’s where they look.

  2. 02

The caption tells them to watch

“Don’t blink.” “This one is friendly.” “It wants out.” Now they’re staring at exactly the wrong place.

  3. 03

The music winds up, then cuts dead

The score climbs, then drops to a single heartbeat and a breath. The silence is the warning they don’t get.

  4. 04

The fright comes from somewhere else

A skull at the screen, a ghost from the side, a spider from above. Only after that does the thing they were watching do what they feared.

And it is never the same twice

On top of the script, something comes out of nowhere every few seconds, except in the quiet just before a planned fright, so the big scares always land on silence.

  • Bony hands reach in from any edge of the screen
  • Eyes in the dark red or yellow, they blink and vanish
  • Bats a swarm crosses between frights
  • Spiders drop on a thread when it’s quiet
  • Lightning flashes as each room slides in
  • Something standing a shadow with red eyes at the bottom of the frame

The sound

An original horror score, built for this card

Nothing is a stock MP3. The music is synthesised live in their browser and conducted by the story: it winds the tension up before each fright, drops to a heartbeat and a breath, then hits with a sting as the scare lands. Everything runs through a long hall reverb, which is most of why it sounds like somewhere you shouldn't be.

Prefer your own song? Pick any track from the music library and it plays instead. A sound button stays in the corner the whole time.

  • a bell ostinato circling a minor chord
  • a walking bass and two violins
  • a choir a semitone apart
  • a church bell, wind and a drone
  • a heartbeat under every silence
  • whispers that cross from one ear to the other
  • a child’s giggle, three knocks, a far-off wail
  • thunder and a sting on every fright

Honest scare rating

How scary is it, really?

Jumpy, not gory

The frights are loud and sudden, and they are designed to catch people off guard. The pictures are cartoon posters: skulls, ghosts with fangs, a spider, a red splash. There is no gore, no real horror imagery and nothing graphic.

That makes it right for teenagers, adults, horror fans and anyone who likes a prank. For small children, or for someone who really does not enjoy being scared, send a gentler one.

Who to send it to

  • The friend who swears nothing scares them

Send it with no warning and wait for the voice note.

  • Your brother or sister

Payback for every time they hid behind a door.

  • Your partner

Sweet ending, terrible middle. Put your photo in the moon.

  • The horror-movie friend

Synthesised score, real jump scares, no cheap gore. They’ll respect it.

  • The group chat

One link, everyone opens it at night, nobody admits who screamed.

  • The office team

A two-minute break that gets talked about at lunch.

Questions

Scary Halloween card FAQ

It is an animated Halloween ecard that tells a short horror story. It opens on two red eyes in thick fog with their name, one tap lets them in, and then four rooms play by themselves: a cauldron, a hallway of ghosts, a pantry with a rattling potion, and a final scene with a black cat under the moon where your Halloween wish appears. It takes about a minute.

It is built to make people jump. Each room has a scripted jump scare that lands on silence, with loud sound effects and a sting, and smaller frights appear at random between them. The pictures are flat cartoon posters with no gore, so it suits teenagers, adults and horror fans. For young children, send the gentler Trick or Treat card instead.

We would not send it to small children or to anyone who genuinely dislikes being scared. The imagery is cartoonish, but the jump scares are sudden and loud. For kids and family, the Trick or Treat card and the Halloween Pumpkin Patch are playful and not frightening.

Yes. Their name appears on the very first screen in the fog, in the cauldron room, and in large orange letters under your title on the final scene. Any line in the story can also include their name.

You can rewrite every one of the 40 lines on the card: the opening, every caption, the little ghost's whisper, the BOO, the cat's hiss and your final wish. The order of the rooms and the timing of the frights are fixed, because that is what makes them work.

Yes. It has an original horror score synthesised in the browser, with bells, choir, violins, a heartbeat, whispers and thunder, plus sound effects for every fright. You can choose your own music instead, and there is a sound button in the corner. Phones need one tap before they allow sound, which is what the opening door is for.

Yes, one optional photo. It appears inside the full moon on the final scene, above your Halloween wish.

You can build the whole card, personalise every line and preview it for free without signing up. Sharing the finished link and downloading the video are covered by a one-time unlock or a plan, with no subscription trap.

When you finish, copy the card link and paste it into a WhatsApp chat or group. It opens straight in their phone browser with no app. For the best scare, send it after dark and tell them to turn the sound up.

Halloween 2026 is on Saturday, 31 October. Because it falls on a weekend, scary cards tend to be opened in the evening of Friday the 30th or on Saturday night.
