A Diwali Card That Says “I’m Coming Home”

A hand-drawn story of ghar wapsi, with your name and Mummy’s words in it

The night train, Mummy’s “kab pahunch rahe ho?” buzzing on your phone, the bazaar on the way from the station, the doorbell, the aarti thali, the tilak, and everyone on the terrace lighting diyas one by one. Five doodle panels, five taps, your wish at the end. Two minutes to make, free, shared as a WhatsApp link — and it works just as hard the year you can’t make it home.

No sign-up · Plays on any phone · Share on WhatsApp in one tap · Five hand-drawn panels, about 44 seconds

Quick answer

To make a Diwali card for your parents about coming home, open the Diwali Ghar Wapsi card, type your name, choose son or daughter, write Mummy’s phone message the way she actually texts, add one line for the family and share the link on WhatsApp. It is a free, hand-drawn, five-panel story with five tap moments; the receiver can tap through it or just watch, and nobody needs an app or an account. Diwali 2026 is Sunday, 8 November.

The Story Your Parents Will Watch

Five comic panels, drawn like a sketchbook: thin ink lines, cream paper, wobbly borders. Your name and Mummy’s words go into the story.

  1. 🚆Panel one

    The night train

You at the window seat, an uncle snoring beside you, villages with diyas rolling past. Your phone buzzes — a message from Mummy, in her words. Tap to reply.

  2. 🏮Panel two

    The Diwali bazaar

Chai stall, the Mithai Bhandar with a halwai calling “Aao aao!”, a kandil stall. Tap to buy Mummy’s favourite mithai, tap again to pick a paper lantern.

  3. 🚪Panel three

    Ghar ka darwaza

Toran, diyas on the step, a rangoli, a nameplate that says Ghar. Ring the bell. Mummy steps out with the aarti thali, a tilak, then the hug: “Aa gaya mera Aarav!”

  4. 🪔Panel four

    Chhat pe diye

The family behind the parapet, five unlit diyas, the kandil on its pole. Tap five times to light them, the kandil glows, the sky fills with crackers.

  5. 💌Panel five

    The wish

A note in a handwritten font: your title, your message, your sign-off — and the family photo taped on, if you added one.

Tap Anywhere. The Story Answers.

Like every story card on MomentoCard, you tap anywhere on the screen. At five moments the card pauses and shows a hint for what the tap will do; a golden ring marks the thing on screen. Anywhere else, a tap skips to the next panel.

Nobody has to tap. If the phone is left alone the story carries on by itself after a few seconds, so Papa can just watch. Dots at the bottom jump between scenes; a replay button starts it over.

  • 📱Tap to reply to Mummy’s message
  • 🍬Tap to buy her favourite mithai
  • 🏮Tap to pick a kandil for the terrace
  • 🔔Tap to ring the doorbell
  • 🪔Tap five times to light the diyas
  • 🎆Keep tapping for more crackers

You, In The Story

Three fields most cards don’t have: your name, son or daughter, and Mummy’s phone message. The character changes with the second one, and Mummy’s line at the door changes with it.

📱 Mummy: Kab pahunch rahe ho? Diye tumhare bina nahi jalenge
🚪 “Aa gaya mera Aarav!”  /  “Aa gayi meri Priya!”

Write Mummy’s message the way she actually texts. “Beta khana khaya? Station pe Papa aayenge” beats any greeting.

Your Wish, Your Photo

The last panel is a note card: a title (24 characters), your message (120), a sign-off (30), and one family photo taped on polaroid-style if you upload it. Last Diwali’s terrace photo is perfect.

Sending it the other way? Parents put their child’s name in, write the phone message as their own, and title it Ghar Aa Jao.

English, Hindi, Hinglish or any Indian language you can type. The story’s own lines are Hinglish and read fine to everyone.

Who Is This Diwali Card For?

One card for every version of coming home — including the year you can’t.

🎟️

You booked the ticket

Send it the moment the train or flight is confirmed. The story starts on a night train; the timing writes itself.

📹

You can’t make it this year

Same story, honest line: “Is saal video call, agle saal darwaza.” It lands harder than any diya image.

👩‍👦

Parents, to a child away from home

Put their name in and write Mummy’s phone message as your own. A “ghar aa jao” that is not a nag.

🎓

Hostel and first-job kids

First Diwali away is the hardest one. The card is the door they are counting days to.

🌏

Family abroad

A link opens in any browser in any country. Send it the night before in their timezone.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

The family WhatsApp group

Everyone watches you ring the bell. The cousins tap the diyas; Dadi just watches.

Not coming home this year?

Send The Diwali You Wish You Were Having.

The card is the homecoming everyone wants, which is exactly why it works when the real one is a video call. Keep the story, and write the honest line in the message: “Is saal train nahi, video call. Diye aap jalao, main dekhoonga. Agle saal darwaze pe milte hain.” Parents can flip it too: put your child’s name in and let the card say ghar aa jao for you.

What To Write: Copy A Line

Each one fits the card’s 120-character message slot. One true sentence, one specific detail.

You are coming home

Train ki ticket book ho gayi, Mummy. Is baar diye main jalaunga. Happy Diwali — pahunch raha hoon.

Papa, station pe mat aana, auto le lunga. Bas darwaza khula rakhna aur aarti ki thali ready. Happy Diwali!

Mummy, your kaju katli is packed, my bag is packed, and I am on the 9:40 home. See you at the door.

घर आ रहा हूँ, माँ। इस बार दीये साथ जलाएँगे। शुभ दीपावली।

You can’t make it this year

Is saal train nahi, video call. Diye aap jalao, main dekhoonga. Agle saal darwaze pe milte hain. Happy Diwali, Mummy Papa.

Not home this Diwali, but every diya you light on the terrace is one I am counting from here. Next year I ring the bell myself.

Timezone alag, diye same. Chhat pe ek diya mere naam ka jalana. Happy Diwali from far away.

From parents: ghar aa jao

Kab aa rahe ho? Diye tumhare bina nahi jalenge. Ticket ho gayi toh screenshot bhejo. — Mummy

Beta, kaju katli tumhare naam ki rakh di hai. Darwaza 7 tarikh se khula hai. Happy Diwali, ghar aa jao.

Your room is cleaned, the kandil is up, the diyas are waiting on the terrace. All that is missing is you.

For Dadi, Nani and the elders

Dadi, aapke haath ka ladoo aur chhat ke diye — bas do din aur. Ghar aa rahi hoon. Happy Diwali!

Nani, this year the tilak is on video call and the ladoos are from a box, but the blessings are all yours.

Why This Card Gets Replayed

Your name at the door

Type who is coming home and whether it is a son or a daughter. The character changes, and so does Mummy’s line at the door: “Aa gaya mera Aarav!” becomes “Aa gayi meri Priya!”

Mummy’s message, in her words

The text that buzzes on the phone in the train scene is yours to write. Put in something she has actually sent you and the card stops being a greeting and starts being a memory.

Tap anywhere, like every story card

Five tap moments with a hint and a golden ring: reply to Mummy, buy the mithai, pick a kandil, ring the bell, light the diyas. Tap elsewhere to skip ahead; leave it alone and it plays itself.

Five hand-drawn panels

Thin ink lines on cream paper, wobbly borders, a caption sticker on every scene and dots to jump between them — the same sketchbook doodle style as MomentoCard’s other story cards.

Works when you can’t come home

The story is the homecoming everyone wishes for. Keep it, write the honest line in the message, and promise next year. Parents can flip it into a “ghar aa jao” card for a child away from home.

The wish card at the end

A title, a 120-character message, a sign-off and an optional family photo taped on polaroid-style. Opens in any browser on Android, iPhone or a laptop with no app and no sign-up.
